From the Wisteria's Snow White Reindeer to Ballard Designs' Jute Reindeer to The DIY Show Off's paper mache reindeer on a bed of pine, it appears that having reindeer in your Christmas decor is a must have this year.
I recently found two 'gold' paper mache reindeer at Michaels and I was inspired to make them over after reading Hometown Girl 's Quick How To: Glitter Ornaments....oh so beautiful!!!
So, I purchased one to try out her technique. Here sits Reindeer #1 awaiting his makeover....
I used my go-to Burroughs' Encyclopaedia vintage pages. I tore them into small pieces and then pasted them on with water-downed Elmers Glue in a random fashion. Here sits Reindeer #1 with his new vintage coat.
I was very pleased with the overall look and decided to buy Reindeer #2. Here he sits on my desk awaiting his makeover....
I then applied a coat of the Elmers Glue mixture and sprinkled both reindeer with Martha Stewart Crystal Coarse Glitter. I am a first time 'glitterer' and I now have glitter everywhere.
I added brilliant green satin ribbons with two petite vintage rhinestone brooches. Here they sit all dressed up awaiting Christmas...
Let me know what you think....
Ooh, how fun! I especially like the ribbons.

Darling! Mine were the same reindeer and I loved the gold, but there are so many options. I think newspaper is such a cute idea. I hoard pretty scrapbook paper too - another great option. Mine were wearing vintage brooches too! lol! I'll be posting more pictures soon. Thanks so much for the shout out! What a sweet surprise today! You're awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I have just accepted the fact that once glitter is involved, it's involved permanently and everywhere but it's so worth it.

Love the idea! I think I just might try this project with a snowman. ??? I will have to do something with the face, of course. Buttons maybe??? But I have decided that I will use sheet music. This will be a gift for my Mom. She plays the piano for her church. I think she will love it! Thanks again for the idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing on Thingamajig Thursday! Hope to see you again this week.
