I'm thrilled to be hosting another Graphique giveaway....need I say more!

One of my favorite Etsy shops is Graphique and their endless selection of digital downloads for do-it yourselvers. These digital downloads are great for pillow covers but they can be used for tea towels, lampshades, pillowcases, furniture etc. Graphique features French Style, Animals, Birds and Insects, Words and Quotes, Holidays, Whimsical and so much more....They have 2,200+ images available for purchase.

Graphique specializes in old world graphic style digital download images that are done in high quality jpeg or png format for use on burlap, fabric, and just about anything else you can think of. Some of the images are redesigns and recreations of old images with added design elements. Some are new images actually created by Graphique to appear vintage. The digital downloads can be decreased or enlarged depending on your project. They are constantly creating new images.

Craigslist Cane Chairs

Like so many DIYers, I peruse Craigslist on a regular basis.  Recently, I scored these great cane chairs and knew I had to have them.  For $50 they had found a new home, mine!

Upon closer inspection, they needed a bit more love than I thought but nothing I couldn't cover with paint.  My newest favorite saying is, "If all else fails, paint it".   

I first removed the cushions and bottom seat and then I cleaned with TSP.  Next I used my handy Klean Strip Easy Liquid Sandpaper over the entire chair.  It deglosses and prepares the chair for painting.  LOVE IT!!!

I then took the chairs outside and sprayed them with Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer in Black followed by 2 coats of Krylon Spaces Satin Finish in Black.  I feel that spray paint provides the best coverage for cane.

My next step was to distress the chairs to expose some of the original wood where it may have worn away through normal wear and tear.  I tend to use whatever grade of sandpaper I have handy.  I used a not-so-fine grade this time.  To be honest with you, it was a spare piece and I really don't know what grade it was.  I then finished them off with my trusty wax, Howard Citrus Shield Premium Paste Wax. Bottom line, I was pleased with the overall distressing. 

Now this is where I wanted to announce that these chairs are part of an overall plan to redecorate my Guest Room for expected company at the end of the month.  I have sooooo much to do.  Hint, hint.....black, cream and burlap are a part of the design scheme.

Next, I tackled recovering the cushions and the seat.  The most important lesson I learned while completing this part of the project is to cut your fabric generously.  I did not do this and subsquently, my cushion is sewn a bit too tightly.

And finally, the completed project....  You might recognize the RELAX pillow made earlier this year for my Etsy Inspiration & Giveaway post that featured Graphique.

I have been blessed in so many ways this year including the gift of life.  I am so thankful for my outstanding oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgical oncologist, plastic surgeon and every nurse and hospital staff I encountered along the way.

I am thankful for my family and friends and now, my blog, it's followers and it's sponsors.

ETSY, ESTY, ESTY...need I say more!


Subway signs have been a hot decorating item lately.  They have been featured in many magazines and sold at many major retailers.  These two signs from Restoration Hardware range in price from $650 - $850.....a bit pricey for my pocketbook!!!

    

Well, I stumbled upon Paper Bleu Studio while researching Subway Art on Etsy and I was amazed by her talent for creating unique subway art.  Rebecca Gouin of PaperBleu Studio has taken this art to an entire new level. Here are just a few examples of her creativity....

Inspired by Rebecca's art, I thought I would try to create my own subway of Pittsburgh.  I first purchased a 12" x 24" canvas at Michaels (of course, using a 50% off coupon) and then I hit the web for a tutorial. I found a large number of them but so many of them required you to cut your own stencils and then place them strategically on your canvas etc... To be honest with you, it was just too much work for me. 


So, PowerPoint came to my rescue.  I set my canvas size and then used a number of different fonts for the names and places from Pittsburgh.  Once I was pleased with the overall layout, I changed to background color to black with all the typography in white.  To make it just look just a bit more authentic, I then used Background Style 12 to make it appear more realistic. 


Happy with the final outcome, I called a friend at Signs by Tomorrow and he transferred the final copy onto a canvas like material.  I then sprayed the original canvas with adhesive, wrapped my subway art around it and stapled it on the backside.  VOILA.....

Monday's Market and Giveaway

I am launching Monday's Market and Giveaway today which will introduce you to Esty designers and their items.

Jolie Marche pillows are detailed and unique designs.  These vintage inspired pillows will add a pop of color, pattern and style to any room.  The pillow covers feature designs on burlap, grain sacks and linen and incorporate whimsical chandeliers, french script, birds, flowers...the list goes on.

Inspired by Jolie Marche designs, I thought I would try to reproduce similar pillows.

I used painters drop cloth that I washed, dried and ironed, ironed and ironed. I then copied two delightful pieces of calendar artwork from Flora & Fauna 2010 calendar onto Jolee's Easy Image transfer sheets.

I ironed the transfers onto the painters cloth and I sewed the pillows together.  Voila!!!
